The answer is 1/2. To solve it... use algebra. Use X to represent the unknown fraction. Turn the word problem into a numerical expression. It will look like this: 4(X/5) x X = 1/5. the little x is times. simplify and you get 4X^2/5= 1/5. then simplify again and you get 4x^2=1 Then x^2= 1/4 then x=1/2 ta da!

To quadruple one fifth means to multiply by 4/5. So (4/5)x^2 = 1/5 ==> x = sqrt((5/4)(1/5)) = sqrt(1/4) = 1/2. So the answer is 1/2.

4/5 * x² = 1/5
x² = 1/4
x = 1/2 (as x > 0)
