Yes I had this experience and it seemed to take forever for those muscles to regain all their strength. The hospital just put it in an ace bandage. I finally went to my doctor who ordered an air cast. The air cast stabilized the motion of the ankle. I could walk but couldn't twist the ankle. This allowed the muscle to heal. It did take several weeks to heal. I am a nurse and was back on the floor in one week. I wore the air cast for almost a month.

I sprained my ankle when I fell down some steps at the Blue Man Group show two weeks ago this Saturday. Went to doc, he took x-rays, said I fractured the talus bone and I needed to go to an Orthopedic cause I needed a boot. went to Orthopedic, in there l0 min. he said I didn't need anything on it. He charged me $1,045.00 for that 10 min. Can you believe it? The ankle and foot are still bruised and I'm still swollen around the ankle. They take a while to heal but I don't have a double(ouch-ouch)sprained ankle. It still hurts to walk on it and I rest it as much as possible.
Hope you recover quickly. I'm old so it'll take longer.
