Paper mache is pretty easy to make. There are a lot of cool things you can make, too - bowls, jewelry, masks, decorations, life-size sculptures, etc. But since you're here, you probably already have an idea of what you want to make and are just looking for the recipe, right? Ok -
There are two (2) ingredients:
1. Paper. Choosing the right paper is important. The best is newsprint and “institutional” paper towels, the worst are really shiny or coated papers.
2. Bonding Agent. This is the sticky stuff that the paper is dipped into. There are several options here:
o Flour. least expensive, least toxic. most environmentally friendly. Works pretty good. Recommended if doing this activity with small children. Just mix in about 2 cups per gallon of lukewarm water.
o PVC adhesive. Now this is really pretty sticky, but you will get more permanent models. Use about 1/4 cup per gallon. You might even try a non-toxic and easy to find glue like white school glue. It works fairly well, too.
o Wallpaper Paste. Buy the powdered kind and mix according to directions, except use about double the amount of powder they say to. This stuff works GREAT for paper mache.
Here are some tips for successful paper mache:
* TEAR the paper, don't cut it. Use long strips to cover large areas, small flakes to do detailed work.
* Let your model DRY completely before painting and/or sanding. In humid weather this can sometimes take up to a week, so be patient.
* Choose a sturdy, water resistant form for the base of your model. You can use heavy cardboard but it tends to get water-logged and deform. I've seen people use chicken-wire or balloons to make large, detailed sculptures.
My favorite paper mache project ever - Get a huge weather balloon or very large gag/party balloon and make a paper mache alien head mask!

we've fewer and much less newspapers in line with annum because of the fact their habitat is being lost at a by no skill until now considered fee. it relatively is style of like wearing genuine fur, because of the fact the newspapers are all disappearing and there are Michael's Craft grant shops everywhere paper mache has grow to be much less and much less basic. Why slaughter newspapers for college initiatives with all of the recent and superior craft suggestions and components that don't contain newspaper slaughter or any artwork or creativity in any respect are reachable for thrice the fee? i might particularly do craft initiatives bare than slaughter information papers to make grotesque pinatas.
