Like, would it be harder to accept a 50 if it was written in red than if it was written in, say, blue? My mom's a teacher, but she doesn't believe me when I say that, so she grades with a red pen.

Thank you!

Personally, I have never turned in an assignment in anything other than black or blue ink. I think your teacher should not have a problem with red, purple, green or orange ink as long as your writing is legible. Then again, some teachers use red ink to write remarks on students papers, those teachers might not want students to use red ink so there won't be any confusion between the teachers writing and the students writing. I think it would be a good idea to ask your teacher if they have a problem with colored ink.

In NYC, it's politically incorrect for teachers to grade students' papers with red ink. Let alone a failing grade. I was skeptical when someone told me this, but it's true. Teachers could use red ink, yet it's frowned upon by school administrators at some public schools. I guess a failing grade is easier to digest than red ink. For me red ink meants nothing. But I guess some students and parents are sensitive about the red ink issue.

It hurts like he** when you see that red ink splashed all over your paper! Especially if you write an essay and then the teacher makes all the corrections in red ink! Arrgh!! When I was young, I was taught that red ink is an insult. Only teachers are allowed to use red ink. So for me, red ink has always had a negative meaning!

you associate failure with red, because of the saying of being in Red INK as behind payment . but if all grading is done in red ink it doesn't matter.. An A is still an A & an F is still an F.

I believe it is. Red has so much negative connotation when brightened up by white paper and ink. My Research Paper teacher grades our papers in green ink and I find that I'm more accepting of my paper, even if it's filled with her comments, than I would be if it were in glaring red.
