Odors get into the insulation and no matter how you wash out the refrigerator you will still have the odors. Place a saucer or custard cup with a couple ounces of pure vanilla extract(imitation does not work) in the refrigerator. The vanilla absorbs the odors and gives off a pleasant odor of it's own. You can also place a few charcoal briquettes wrapped in a paper towel on the shelf to help absorb the odor.

Keep an open box of baking soda in the rear of the top shelf. It will take a couple of days, but you probably should keep a fresh box in there all the time. Change it about every 6-8 weeks.

Fill a bucket with warm water and add some Borax. Wash all surfaces with the solution. Rinse with a damp cloth rinsed in clear water. After this, use an open box of baking soda or buy a special fridge box with the open sides.
