A D.O. is a doctor of orthepedic medicne. This means they are certified to work on the bones and joints and movement. A M.D. is a doctor of medicine which works on the body's internal organs and the way they work with the body. An M.D. is generally more generic and broad in coverage than an D.O.

I've asked that same question a number of times. I hear a DO is a doctor who hasn't completed all their couarses and will be a MD once they get a Masters degree. For me a DO is a wanna be doctor, went to one and found out why she wasn't a MD {stupid} I went to a nurse practitioner and even worse she gave me a drug that was way wrong, could have put me in coma...Now I read up about so called miracle drugs before taking any. It is a good old fashion Doctor for me, if you can find such a person. I hope you have better luck than I have had.

State regulations govern the training and practices of both M.D. and O.D.'s. They have equivalent status in some states, although their training is different.

Do you mean an O.D and M.D? An OD is a doctor of optometry; i.e an optometrist, while MD is your physician.

It is actually a doctor of osteopathy. Depends on the state where you live whether or not they can prescribe medicine.

Personally, I would go to an MD.
