Why did they change their name to the wizards? Is it two different franchises or they the same franchise, just having a makeover name?

Abe Pollin decided that with Washington being the murder capital of America, maybe their sports team shouldn't have "bullets" as a name...they had a poll of fans to pick the new name and they chose Wizards

there were too many drive by shootings in washington, so they had to change the name to see if bullets would stop flying all over in the streets.

they had to change their name to something that sounded less pro-violence/ pro gangs. happened in the late 90's i think
