I'm in the same boat. Reports keep coming out that a bachelor's degree should give you $23,000 more than the high school employees. How wrong!
The sad fact is that you are entry level. Some day you WILL be making over $20/hour, but not now. Don't base your job on money. Start small and gain the experience.
I'm trying to get into the nonprofit sector, with the potential of making $100,000+ if I'm good at it. Unfortunately I have to start small, and that means doing things I don't normally want.

Good question. If that were the case, what would be the point of getting an education. Let's be honest, a lot of people go to school so that they can make more money. If they could get the highest paying jobs with nothing but physical skill, they wouldn't go to school at all. Granted, our college education system may work better if schools were less crowded, but who would be benefiting from a system in which the population can fore-go some kind of education, that will also be teaching them critical thinking skills (hopefully) and allowing them to have the "buffer" period of maturation between childhood and adulthood we call the college years.

Because sociology degrees don't get you a good paying job. Business degrees, computer science degrees, chemistry degrees get high paying jobs. Sociology isn't in high demand and can get, at best, a social working job with your local or state government agencies. My suggestion is to find a niche or something you are good at and find a job in that field. Don't expect your sociology degree to get much.

Sociology does not pay well.
See if you can get a job outside of your field with a better pay scale, and do sociology volunteer work on the side.
This way, you can build up your sociology resume.

Your big mistake is betting your degree in Sociology... There are no good paying jobs in that field... Your best bet to get a good job is to get a job in retail or manufacturing (because you can work your job around your classes) and start working on a MBA degree...

Because you are a liberal arts graduate and actually want to enjoy your job. unfortunately, the only ones that pay well are ones that require horrible vocational degrees. Even when you do find a job that you want, it will still not pay enough (welcome to my world) but at least you will enjoy it. So there's my advise. Enjoy life.
