I worked my way thru college, and my college degree was more about self-actualization and opening my mind to new ideas, than it was about getting a job. It's not as hard to get a degree now, compared to when my father was in college. Back then, education meant something more. I was trying to have the same intellectual experience he did, and I think I succeeded. I have a BA in Political Science, and have been disabled/unemployed for 5 yrs now. Before that, I worked for Home Depot as a special services associate. It had nothing to do with my degree, but I was still able to think about people in a way that I never would have, had I stopped after high school...
