Ok here’s the situation, last night before I went to bed I went to say goodnight to my kids. One is 16 years old and the other is 18 both in high school. I said goodnight to my 16 year old and then moved to my 18 year olds room. I knocked once and opened the door, and my son quickly turned off his monitor and pulled up his pants. I yelled at the top of my lungs “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?” He was yelling at me and I was yelling at him, don’t really need to go in detail. After we both claimed down we sat and talked about the situation. Apparently he was chatting with this 18 year old girl online and one thing led to another and they started having cyeber sex. I had no idea what to say, I was shocked. We ended with me leaving the room with nothing to say to him. So I was just wondering if cyber sex was illegal and if my son can get in trouble for doing this type of stuff. Also I want to know how I can prevent this form ever happening again. Thanks

No, it's not illegal, and frankly, it's really none of your business. Your son is 18 years old, he is a post-pubescent human being with hormones. Let him have his fun. It doesn't harm anyone, and hey it could be worse: He could be using your credit card to pay for porn.

You're lucky if this is all you have to worry about it. I'm just horrified that there is someone out there who thinks that an 18 year old boy masturbating with another 18 year old online is a horrible thing that should be avoided and maybe prosecuted!

Leave your son alone.

As far as the law is concerned, there isn't even really anything illegal with him having a sexually explicit conversation with a younger girl. As long as the conversation doesn't include coercion into real sexual intercourse (or a real life meeting) then there is no law against it. Furthermore, the law rarely gets involved when the age gap is around 4 years when the oldest is 18. Think about it... every senior who has sex with a freshman isn't arrested for it. Usually the law only gets involved when the parents of the younger person press charges for statutory rape.

But as far as no contact cyber sex is what we're talking about, there is nothing illegal about it. You need to leave your poor son alone. He is embarrased enough that you caught him masturbating, how do you think he would feel knowing you're airing his dirty laundry out for a bunch of strangers to read?

The important question is, how old was the girl, really? Is she really 18? He can certainly get in trouble if the girl is not 18, but certainly no one on the internet ever lies about their age, right? If I were you I'd try to stay calm about the whole thing and let your son know that if he wants to remain a member of the household he will follow rules - and make your wishes clear with regard to this behavior. Surely you don't want the neighborhood watching the police walking out of your house with all your computers in the process of their investigation in to your sons interactions with an underage girl - whether he thought they were of age or not.

"my son quickly turned off his monitor and pulled up his pants. I yelled at the top of my lungs “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?” "

Are you seriously trying to tell us that you didn't already know what he was doing?

It's really none of your business if your 18 year old son masturbates, and I find it rather shocking that you didn't close the door and back away quickly once you realized what he was doing. It's as if you have no idea where you end and your children begin. It shows a complete lack of boundaries and major privacy issues.

There are certain aspects of your childrens lives that are none of your business, and your 18 year old son's masturbation sessions certainly qualifies as one of those aspects.

You sound religious.

Masturbation is perfectly healthy and with all the STDs and pregnancies you should be happy that you're child is learning the ropes of a new element of life (sexuality) in a safe, contact-less environment.

Cyber sex isn't illegal so don't expect the FBI at your doorsteps anytime soon.

This a hard subject. But, at least he not get anyone pregnant. Also, you not have to worry about STDs. So, in a way this may be better, I really not know what to tell you. Try to look at the positive may be the best approach.

A: not illigal
B: the only real issue is the fact that he doesn't actually know anything about the other person, so he could be getting his jollys from a 46 year old fat perverted bastard.

If neither you or your husband never masterbated, then you have a right to explain to him how bad this is. However, after you tell him that you and hubby never did, then apologize for lieing to him.
As long as the other person is of age, let him have his privacy

The federal age of consent for internet "circumstances" such as this so if the person he is talking to is under 18 then yes it is illegal. It is hard to tell if someone is actually 18 so I would tell him to be very carefull or he could be in big trouble.

NO cybersex isn't illegal. If he were having cybersex with a 12 yr old, you would have a problem. Otherwise, it's perfectly normal, healthy, and you should not discourage it. It's safer than the alternative.

i will reserve my opinion of sexual issues between consenting adults, but you are not in charge of anyone else's morals except your own. if you haven,t ben a good influence on your son previous to his eighteenth birthday why are you trying to'police' his character now? in my opinion he is definitely not perverted anyone of his age is quiet capable of such acts. now, has your Cochise ben bothering you?
