I actually got my periods when i was 11 and they lasted for 7 days to this day (im now 27). For the first 3-4 days it was quite heavy and then it became lighter every day after that until it ended roughly on the 7th day.
I did go on the pill for uterus problems a few years ago and it seemed to reduce it down to 3-4 days which helped a fair bit.
As for whether or not its normal, i asked the same thing of my doctor. Especially seeing i had endometriosis. He told me that for every woman it is different and sometimes regardless of uterus health a woman can bleed for 7 days. My own sister who is perfectly healthy also gets hers for the same amount of time.
As for your periods not coming on every month, it does mean there could be something to be looked into. Go to your doctor and get it checked out. Everything might be fine, or your body could just be getting over the stress of the accident. Stress can make them become irratic.
Hope everything goes well, good luck.

Mine has been about a 7-9 day thing for a long long time, particularly after I had my first child.
Not having your period every month isn't common, but it's not unheard of. Track it anyway to see if there is a pattern to it (I have a cousin who has something like a 48-day cycle). It's regular, it's just about twice as long as most.
Major life changes, stress, and drastic things to your body (childbirth, accidents, surgeries, extreme diets, extreme exercise) can definately affect your period. That is completely normal.
If you're worried, talk to your doctor. It's possible to regulate your period using birth control pills (well, it's possible for a lot of women to, anyway). After a month or two, your period begins to fit into the first 7 days of "sugar pills". That can also help them be a little lighter. But this is not for everyone, so talk to your doctor.

you should ovulate the same time every month if your period is regular. I am in same position, my first bub was also a honeymoon baby and didn't even know when my fertile days were or anything. Now i am ttc no 2 and have learnt a lot about it all. One thing that helped me was an ovulation calendar, just google 'ovulation calendar' and you can find one on the net, enter the start date and length of your period and you will be able to find out. My period wasn't exactly regular so i ended up getting an ovulation kit, where you get tests that you pee on every day and it indicates when you will ovulate. good luck!

I think a lot of books say it only lasts 4 days ( a lot of guys I know assume that too) but almost everyone I know has a period for about a full week or longer. Don't sweat it.

Stress and/or trauma to the body can result in a delayed period. Plus not all women have periods like clockwork. Don't worry too much about it. However if you don't have a normal period in over 3 months it's time to see a gynecologist.

Have you just started getting your period within the past year? Sometime when you first get your period it can be irregular. Everyone is different on how long it lasts. Norm is 3-7 days. So, yea, its normal.

normal periods lasts 2-7 days, so you're in the norm there. as for irregular periods.... if you haven't been on your period that long, it might be still irregular. it can take around 2 years to be regular. or if you are gymnast or very fit... they may go long periods of time that they don't have their period, because you need a certain amount of body fat. but if it keeps up, i would go talk to a gynecologist to make sure.

I would go to the gyno, you may have a condition where it causes you to have irregular periods. They can give you something to regulate it.
And I have friends who their periods last longer than 7 days and mine is about 3-4.... just depends

Ther isn't too much use making comparisons with your friends because everyone is different and has different cycles. Were you checked proprly for possible internal injuries after the wreck? If there was nothing physical, it is possible that stress or trauma could have caused a change in your cycle. I wouldn't worry too much but talk to your doctor if you are truly concerned.
