My computer/laptop is always shutting off when ever it pleases! I always have it plugged in but it still always seems to be losing power. Does my battery need to be replaced or could it just be where the plug goes in it's just too loose or something and keeps coming disconnected? Sometimes when it's plugged in I get this popup message that says that there's 3% battery left and it's charging. Why would this come up if it should be running solely on electricity already? I really don't have the money to take it to be looked at unless I feel that it's absolutley necessary. Have any of you had similar problems?

Ok, let's start with the thing it isn't. It is NOT the battery. Although that is not to say the battery isn't also bad. Chances are your A/C Adapter has gone bad and/or the connector inside the laptop(known as the D/C plug) has also gone bad.

Your best bet is to find a local notebook repair shop that can take a look at it and give you a free(or relatively cheap) estimate. The problem with your description is that there is one major component you've left out...

Software. You'd be surprised, but your o/s could be infected and could actually cause immediate shut-downs. The question I'd ask is whether or not it shuts down or just IMMEDIATELY shuts off, there is a HUGE difference. If it shuts down and not off, then it's the o/s and/or software and I HIGHLY recommend taking it into the Geek Squad to have them take a look at it.

If you have any more information for me I might be able to better evaluate the situation and give you a better answer. For now, get it looked at by a professional.

This is a common problem. It's very likely that your battery is just pretty much shot. You can look online for a new battery on Ebay or someplace like that, but be aware that even used batteries may be very expensive to buy. If your laptop is old, you may be better off just buying a new one, rather than investing in a new battery.

Educated guess is battery first, charger second, internal dust at CPU (take to pro for internal cleaning) third.

If you can run the computer on the charger with the battery removed, its a bad battery. See if you can find someone with the same laptop and ask to try their battery for a few minutes.

ac electricity is definitely not getting into your pc, something messed up on the connection. Hopefully it's in the cord itself and not internally in the pc. First try getting a new ac adaptor or just cord, if that doesn't work it's a problem on the laptop and you should take it to someone to get fixed.

Can you see an indicator that tells if the battery works?
If the indicator does not work then a battery AND new cable is needed.

it depends. it may be your battery and it may be your charger. i do not have a labtop but i am guessing that if something on your computer says that your labtop is not charging, I would guess it was the charger. However, if it does say it is charging, you should not have a problem.
