I have just begun to get interested in the horror fiction genre. I am looking for some good books in that area but not a lot of blood and gore or grose stuff. I just like a good story line/plot and maybe supernatural or metaphysical content. Erotica is ok, just not into the grose stuff. Amazon has recommended Tamara Thorne's "Haunted" and Scott Nicholson. Susan Hill's The woman in Black. Hell House and The Haunting of Hill House. I'm wondering what you think of these books as well as any others you can recommend. Thank you for your time, I appreciate all answers.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I really don't care for Stephen King though. I started "Kujo" many years ago and put it down after a couple of chapters. He's just got to much gross stuff for me. I like victorian or historical or period types, mostly fiction. I will check out the ones you mentioned though, thank you!

You may want to try Octavia Butler's "Kindred"...great ghost story (somewhat). Great for both paranormal and historical drama lovers....

As a matter of fact...if you are into paranormal, sci-fi...all of her novels are really great!!!!

Happy Reading!!!!!

"Ghosts Among Us: True Stories of Spirit Encounters" by Leslie Rule is one of my favourites. It's all true stories though, but it definitley makes for a good read! Anything by Anne Rice is great. "The Ruins" by Scott Smith is really good. I mean Stephen King said it was scary, haha. Speaking of, Stephen King would be good. But some of his stuff gets pretty graphic. Hopefully those help some!

This is kind of old stuff from Stephen King. He wrote a small book of short stories called, "The Midnight Shift." In it were several stories and the once that scared me to no end was... and don't laugh.... "The Boogey Man"... I told a few friends about it and they laughed. But after they read it, each put stuff in front of their closets... Just a suggestion...
