Hello
For one thing, can you relate to his story? Do you feel bad about the little child in him? I'm not sure what that motivation is that you need to write to him, but just make it personal- tell him what moved you in his story and how you admire his strength. You can also tell him about yourself since you know his story. Good luck with your writing!

Do you think you can think of one really deep or interesting or insightful question that might affect a writer like him? Can you avoid a gushy and ordinary tone in your letter? Maybe you can ask him how he came to develop his craft so he could write such a book without breaking down and giving up?

His books are awesome. His story unbelievable. You should tell him that you admire his strength and how he has persevered against insurmountable odds.

Judy, have you ever read this series of books? None of that really applies here.

Why do you like his books? Do they make you laugh? Cry? Does he "turn a phrase" well? In other words, the way he puts certain words together. Can you, personally, relate to his plots? Do you like his endings?
Who told you about his books? Would you want to thank them?
