...but you found out that he had a criminal past leading up to that crime, would you be like me and figure he deserved the jail time?

To me, if someone is a habitual criminal (burglary, theft, etc...) and he is wrongly accused of a murder, I wouldn't feel the least bit sorry if he was sentenced to die.

Then you are as guilty as the actual murderer.

The system does not work that way.

Each crime has to be proved or disproved on it's own evidence. If we executed people just for being bad, them who knows what crimes we as a society might do next? We might even invade another country because of falsified evidence, just because we thought they were bad. That could result in hundreds of thousands of deaths, each of which could be considered a murder.

Burglary and theft really don't make a person deserve to die. But, it does make them more of a suspect when they have a criminal past

There's a huge difference between murder and theft. Laws exist for a reason. This country was not founded on the principle of chaos and that is what you are suggesting. I'm afraid you lack empathy and I'm very glad that you're not a position of power.

Your way of doing things does not allow the society to accept a person who may have changed his / her ways. It also breaks it's own laws if it finds one guilty and does not reverse it when the truth is discovered.
I hope you don't drive drunk one time and then get pulled in for all hit and run accidents and maybe convicted.
Good luck

I guess you don't have to feel sorry for someone like that....but if he is in jail for a crime he didn't commit like murder then that means that there is a murderer out there that will not be caught.

Our society is based on laws, not feelings.

If a person is punished for something he/she didn't do, then that is an unfortunate consequence of our imperfection and a responsible society should make reasonable restitution.

no, if he was not guilty of the crime he was convicted of, he should not have served the time on that.
