I can flip both ways on this one.

Followup - the problem is that the poem is titled the Road NOT Taken - and for some reason the word NOT seems to be a negative.

I can go either way as well, but would rather think of it as relief that he chose to be an individual instead of one of the masses.

Saw your follow up. I hear what you are saying, but at the end when he states that it has made all the difference...well, that just sounds positive to me.

If it was negative, I think that he would have said something about regret in the last line.

I think of it as a sigh of satisfaction. Having taken the road less traveled, he saw and experienced things that might have been trampled down or just passed by on the busier road. I think he looked back on his life and sighed in contentment that he had chosen the right path, just as one might sigh after a very satisfying Thanksgiving supper.
