well, there's a reason they tell you megabytes..

you can't just say "this player holds 10,000 songs" because it's unrealistic...why you say? mp3 files vary in size GREATLY because of the bitrate at which it was encoded. "standard" mp3's which is what most people use when they say how many songs a unit holds is 128 kilobits per second (kbps)...that translates into about 1 meg per minute of audio. so a 3 minute song at 128kbps would take about 3 megs...ok..well..what happens when you use a higher quality mode..let's say twice the "standard" rate...256 kbps...well now that 3 minute song takes about 6 megs of space.

given the nature of the mp3 format with it's varying bitrates..it's illogical and impossible to guage how many songs a unit will hold, all they know for sure is it'll hold this much data..however many files you can cram into that space is up to you.

i have no clue what 170 songs would take....a gig...maybe 2...maybe less?

oh, and you did acquire this music legally...right?

I GB. Thats one thousand megabytes. That'll be your best bet. If you want 1 GB, get an iPod nano.
