Read a good one, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. The next book is longer, but it might fascinate you, " A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith

Try "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles, or "Old School" by Tobias Wolff. They cover more time than just fall/winter, but both were really good. It's been years since I read "A.S.P.", so I don't remember much about it, but "Old School" deals with a young man's life at a New England prep school in the early 60's. Enjoyable, and it was a Pen/Faulkner award finalist, so bonus brownie points if it's for a school paper! :o)

I can't just suggest one, but try reading some Tamora Piece books. Although I breeze through her books, there is a lot of them. Start with The Song of the Lioness Quartet. Then there is a sequel quartet after that called The Immortals Quartet, then there is a sequel quartet to that one called The Protector of the Small Quartet. After that there is two books about Alanna's daughter (Alanna is the main character in the Song of the Lioness quartet). I warn you though, if you don't like magic or romance, don't read these. She has a lot of both in her books.

two different ones for you to try, "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" and "Son of a Witch" both are written by Gregory Maguire and both are awsome, not to long and not to short. Another for you, if you are into fantisy like Harry Potter, is "So You Want to be a Wizard" by Diane Duane or there is "Lightning" bu Dean Koontz. Sorry, I love books and I love to read. Try any of these, I guarantee you will like them.

Call of the Wild - Jack London would be the best. If you've already read this or want something more graphic, The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Good Luck.

Pepperland by Mark Delaney. Set in the fall of 1980, it follows the life of a teen girl who is grieving the loss of her mother to breast cancer and healing by reconnecting with her mother's legacy--an unmailed letter to John Lennon and a broken guitar.
