I'm curious why people can't be happy with themselves and they have to have approval from everyone they meet or know? Especially kids.

We want approval because to us it's a form of love.
And we all want to know that we are loved and approved of.
Even if the whole world and everyone gives you approval you still can't be happy unless you approve of yourself. Some of us unfornately do not which is why we are unhappy. Kids love attention and approval because it makes them feel safe/secure and special.

We have to blame the media (magazines, television) for making people feel bad about themselves. So when we look at the images, we think that people will accept or love us more if we looked like so & so. With kids not accepting you, they are really insincere about themselves. They maybe raised by parents who are hard on them, so they have to take their frustrations out on other kids. People (adults & kids) will find something wrong with someone else, no matter how pretty, smart, hardworking, ambitious you are. If you don't learn to love yourself, others see that (i don't know how, but they do) & will try to pick on you. God made you just the way you are & it is His approval that you need to concern yourself with because he's your creator.

Insecurity. Comes from all sorts of sources. Me, I was adopted at 5 yrs old along with my 3 other siblings. It's a "fear of rejection" thing for me.

Because with most people, when they ask if they look good, they are really trying to fish for compliments. They already know that they look o.k.....they just want compliments. and u have to admit.....we all do this!!!
