Well heres me thinking after all this time my xbox was working faultlessly, until I here the thing powerup clicking noises in the drive and eventually disc read error in dashboard. Randomly it sometimes works but during gameplay the fans will idle down or more clicking from the drive like its struggling to read the disk, happens with other games as well.

Question is, I dont fancy ringing MS at the moment as I dont have time for a courier plus seems a busy time for these guys since this new update is screwing so many new 360's, so I heard some say I can demand a refund within 28 days of purchase, but what are my rights after 10 months? Just so I dont make an *** of myself if I go in guns blazing about the sale of goods act to Gamestation. Its still in warranty surely the retailer have to do something for free?

after 10 months? you have the right to walk in and be told "we can't do anything to help you, now go away"

it's an issue between you and Microsoft. Gamestation won't be willing to help you. a manufactures warranty is just that, a warranty given by the manufacturer..not the retailer. if you had purchased an extended service plan from the store, they might be willing to help, however, after 10 months they're under no legal obligation to do anything with the standard warranty...that is why in the warranty it says something to the effect of "do not return product to the store".

If you didn't extend your warranty, you've none; the warranty on an XBox 360 is the same as the original XBox: 90 days. If you live in Canada, replace it, do not have it repaired. The company that repairs them is one of the worst tech companies I've ever dealt with and it costs almost 300 after shipping, handling, taxes and repairs. If you're in the US...you might be in better luck.

Sorry your out of luck. You have to return it to Microsoft.

Taking it back to the shop would be like buying a pair of shoes, deciding, 6months later, that you don't like them. Even if they were unworn and you still had the receipt do you think the shop would give you a refund? No me neither.

The shop has to accept returns on faulty merchandise for a reasonable amount of time (usually 1 to 3 months). However your 12 guarantee is with the manufacturer (Microsoft). Game shops do not do repairs and it would be unreasonable of you to expect them to replace your machine with a newer one, if that was the case we would all be trading up.

It is unfortunate that your machine has gone pooof, send it back to Microsoft and see if you can get an extended warranty from the shop you bought it from. One of my On line friends has had 6 machines in just under 11 months!!, knows his courier by first name now!!

Game and Gamestation will normally offer a straight replacement as long as you have your proof of purchase and your packaging. As long as it's a fault and not been damaged.
As someone who's had a 360 fail and be replaced I can vouch for Microsofts' return service. My box failed on Friday, I phoned up MS who then sent round a delivery man on the Monday who returned it good as new on the Friday. Excellent service and totally free as well. Good luck.

If its under warranty, great!
Most retail stores dont service the products they sell, but if they are a dealer for the product they are also a warranty station.. They will probably check it in and send it out for repair.
If you dont have a receipt, alot of products have a "date code" located on it by which they can base the warranty on.
Good luck bro.

Send it back to MS. If they don't play ball go to the newspapers and make a fuss about them being shite.

If from UK you have 12 month warranty so take it back to shop.
Take the receipt if you still have it though.

you're really **** out of luck... microsoft's warranty is 90 days. i work at best buy and the thing we recommend at purchase is to buy a product replacement plan, which will cover defects up to 2 years after you buy it. but unless you did that with us, you're going to have problems returning it

it should still have a manufacturers warranty, no need to go all guns blazing unless the manager is a rude/geek and you have no other option....

make sure you have all receipts etc..

If you bought a one-year warranty, they'll take it and replace it no problem. If not, well, ya have to contact Microsoft unfortunately.
