Because people equate their belief systems very closely with whatever religion they associate themselves with. It is impossible to seperate a person from their belief systems unless something dramatic happens to them personally to change it. Therefore anytime an opinion is asked for people typically answer from their belief systems which is often very closely intertwined with their religion.
