Depends on the total amount of points for the semester. If your whole semester is only 100 points possible, then the highest you could possibly score, assuming that you were perfect on everything else, would be a 60. If you finished with an 86% average on 100 points (not counting this assignment), then you would drop to a 46. Which, is an F on most point scales.

If your whole semester is worth a thousand points, then you could still have a 96% in the class, assuming everything else was at 100%.

If you have 1000 points and you continue on the 86% average, then it could lower your score to an 82%. On a 1000 point assumption, it would drop your score 4%.

Without knowing how many points you have thus far out of how many possible, we can't tell you how much it will drop your grade. Without knowing how many points your class will end up with, we can't tell you how much it will effect your grade at the end of the year. Anyone who says otherwise is full of it.

It depends. It depends if your teacher weights the grades or does total points. If total points, I would need to know the total number of points you have had so far. If weighted then I need to know the scale that they weight it by.

At our school the 86% you have is a low B- maybe even a high C+ , but at your school it may be different. Then the grade letter would affect your GPA in different ways. It would also depend on what your other quarter grades have been. Then I could calculate how much it would affect your overall semester grade So, really just put some effort into the speech and don't worry about it.

If the speech is worth your forty percent of your final grade and you don't do it, the best you can get in the class is a 60 and since you're already at a B, you would be at a high F.

If it's not worth forty percent but actually 40 points, it would depend how the teacher is weighing those forty percents. Kind of like I was talking about above. What percentage of your final grade are speeches worth? Is 40 pts. = A? But either way, it's in your best interest to at least attempt to do the speech.

I think that it would move your grade down to a low C or maybe even a high D. If I were you, I would give the speech a try. If you do it, you will get some credit for it, and that's always better than a zero, right?

Depends on how many total points are possible but just a guess it would take that 86 down to around a 60 or worse. You should be able to figure this out or did you skip out on math class also?
