Try asking for a cami (camisole) instead. Cami's are sortof like a bra, just not as much support, like a mini-bra built into a spagetti strap.

If your mom says no about a cami, get into your whitest, see-throughest shirt and put it on. Walk around your mom, sort of parading around in it. And if you are reaaaaly brave, act like you are going to wear it to school, and if she doesn't care, keep wearing it, but change your shirt secretly on the bus or something.

Awww- this brought back memories for me of a zillion years ago. I was in the same place as you.
I had a friend who had a trianing bra and thought I was ready too. I was really nervous. One day- I just waited for the right moment and said "Mom, Cathy has a bra now and so do most of the girls I know- I was wondering if I could get one too".
We were at the store that afternoon. By asking it as a question it gives her the option to give her reason why not.
Maybe she is worried that she feels she is rushing you??
Just find the right moment and do it. This is one of those "gowing up" moments- where you will do something that will later allow you to ask other people questions you may not be comfortable with.
Good luck hun!

Aww! Did you know that you shouldn't be shy towards your mom? She'll be your guide through life. I know it might not seem like it now, but in my life, i'm in 8th grade, she is my everything. Your mom probably doesn't know that you want one. I started wearing around 9 or 10 maybe, with a training bra. I got my mom in my room when she tucked me in and i sat her down and told her that I wanted to wear one to feel more comfortable around my friends, since most of them had started wearing. Just tell her that you are ready and that you need one to get comfortable with the idea of growing up. You can't be afraid of what she will say, she will definantly say yes, SHE HAD TO ASK HER MOM THE SAME THING. Plus, you might as well get more outgoing towards your mom, because then you'll have to ask her about woman-problems, if you know what I mean, and what to do about it. You should try Americans girl Keeping Yourself Well book, it has all kinds of great advice for this kind of material. Good luck! Sorry this is so long! Hope I helped!

Congratulations! You are growing up and becoming a young woman - you need proper underwear to feel confident.

I had the same problem many many moons ago and I was upset but afraid to ask my Mom for a bra (all my friends had been wearing them for months maybe a year). Finally, one day I was really embarassed at school by some silly boys because my breasts (even with a slip) were still sticking out too much from my sweater. For me that was the end because I would rather get embarassed with my Mother than be embarassed and humiliated at school. I went to Mom and insisted we buy a bra and although she was wanting to keep me her "little girl" the thought of some boys gawking at me in school made her more upset: I got my bra.

Be sure you go to a store with nice ladies who will help you find a good fit or ask you Mom to help you measure your chest and you can try to order one on line; but be sure of the measurements when you do. There is a chart on the web site below. I always liked to wear Lily of France bras because they are pretty and give a good fit.

Here is a link for Hanes/Lily of France bras and if you click on the left it will tell you how to measure yourself for a bra.

how old r you. this is very important. if it gets that desprate, go to the mall with some friends, get a bra, or 2, then wen u *** home, tell you're mom THAT IS IMPORTANT TO THE MAX!!!! then tell her that you got them, and that eventho she didn't realize it, you really needed one. try to get her to share in your joy that you got some cute new bras!!! hold, on,hold on....maybe you shouldn't do that.......yah, ask her first, then if she says no just casually mention it a little while form then......yah, that's it!

p.s. if you don't know wut the sizes r or which one to get, ask a sales lady, or bcuz u r shy, ask a freind to get 1 for you. also, you have to realize that she will need to measure them, which means wrapping a tape measure around you. if ur shy, that might not werk out so well. *good luck*!! mwah!

Pull the sale ads out of the newspapers. Lay them on the table on the pages that have the bras on them and circle a few of them this will give her the hint, then maybe you 2 can talk about it, then tell her that you really want one. I hope this helps.

Tell her that you're growing up and you will eventually need to have these things - she'll do it, she was a girl once like you and knows how it feel, perhaps not exactly but similar to that.

Don't be shy - she's your mom! :D You should really warm up to her if you're shy, you don't nkow how great she is yet.

Why are you shy about it? Do they have a crease at the bottom? All women have boobs, even your mom. If they are big enough, then you are ready. Save your allowance and buy yourself one. I don't think they will card you if you look old enough so put on some make-up or just act grumpy.

Girl, just tell her you need one. If she says no, then she says no. Do you get an allowance??? If you do, save up, go to walmart or some store like that, and buy your own bra. Ask the sales lady to measure you and take it from there. Save up about 35 dollars.

Tell her friends are getting them and you'd like to have them too. Or you can mention that you don't want boys to point & stare.

You never know, she might be nervous about how to mention it to you. Bras means sexual development -- weird area for lots of moms!

We just talked about this in the Teen forum at Kimkins.
