Before you plan your trip to shoot a Sunset image, is there some way to tell if it will be a wild one or just a plain old boring Sunset? I don't need answer of "red skies at night sailors delight".
Or do have to pack up and just go out and take my chances? Maybe there is a chart or something?
I don't want to waste my time driving miles to get bad light.

i am not too sure ont his topic but i can give you recommendation as the susets are affected by many aspects.
Look at the weather for the upcoming vacation, sunny with partial clouds? that should equal a beautiful sunset as the clouds moisture is reflected off of the suns ray beam. Again the only advice i can give you is to do some research about the upcomming weather and check the affects they have on the sun. maybe on wikipedia?

Best wishes
Allen

The way I judge is by "the messier and more polluted the day, the better the sunset." Basically, the sunset is more colorful when it has something to reflect off of in the atmosphere, such as pollutants.
