Hmm, there's great books that make you cry but they are not necessarily sad. The following books caused a great deal of emotion for me:

The City of Joy-Dominique Lapierre
Night- Elie Wiesel
The Poisonwood Bible-Barbara Kingsolver
The Five People you Meet in Heaven-Mitch Album
Before Women Had Wings-Connie May Fowler
Our America: Life and Death on the Southside of Chicago-By LeAlan Jones, Lloyd Newman

These are great books.

Where the red fern grows my mom read it I read it aftyer her and i'll pass it on to another girl one day. It was wonderful. *sigh* It's one that hits that tender spot in the heart. Just right there. It was embarrasing really I was reading the sad part during class(after I was done with our classwork) And I started crying. It was so embarassing. I had puffy eyes the rest of the day and everyone thought I got beat up or something.(I mean really! I'm not a baby or mabe I am. LoL) I hope you like this book if you try it or I hope you liked it if you read it already.

I found the best book that made me cry was .. " The Colour Purple ". It made me appreciate my freedom and the fact that I have such a loving family, friends and an amazing man. Try reading it I bet you'll love it!!

The Tenth Best Thing About Barney.

It is a simple children's book, but it is so evocative in how a little boy comes to grips with the death of a beloved pet.

the only book that has ever made me cry is sleepers by lorenzo carcaterra... its about 4 boys that grow up in hells kitchens in new york, and accidently kill someone in a prank-gone-wrong... they are sent to a juvenile detention centre where they are physically, mentally and sexually abused... there are parts in that book where i actually had to put the book down and go in a corner and cry before i could carry on reading... this book really got to me...
