I have a 2001 buick century,70,000 miles.Runs great, accelerates great but the transmission clunks shifting into forward gears.Husband just replaced 2 front motor mounts and front brakes.Still clunking.Doesn't slip or lose power.Any ideas or similar problems?

Rear motor mounts
Have your husband look under the hood while your putting it in gear. He should see the engine move and figure out where the clunk is coming from.
But since you say it happens when you put it in drive I'd say it's the rear motor mounts

that clunk is probably not in the transmission. There is a mount on the top of the engine called a "dog bone" (because that's what it looks like). It is possible this is the problem. The dog bone mounts from the front of the car on the top to the engine. very easy to replace.

To check this...open the hood...with the car off...rock the car with body weight and watch the dogbone...you will be able to see easily if it is bad.

another way is to have someone sit in the car while running...hold the foot on the brake..and shift from forward to reverse while idling...I'm sure you will find it that way.

Hope this helps.

Might need a new universal but those 700R4 transmissions are famous for that. They are one of GM's biggest failures! JUNK!!
