if i remember correctly, he was imitating cliff burton's sound (I haven't really seen that box in over six years so I may be off base).. get yourself a fatt overdriver (I just use an Boss ODB pedal to avoid damaging equipment by overdriving a preamp) and maybe like a vox wah pedal or one of those jim dunlops with the extra button on the side that makes it sound more vicious
