Chemical Dye's are not safe and should not be used on pets. I have heard of people using cool-aid and a bit of water and spraying it on the pet to get a certain colour. Then if the pet licks it off it is not poisonous. But of course it does not last. And it of course contains a good bit of sugar which isn't good for your pet either.
I would recommend against the entire fad of colouring your pet.

I wouldn't even try it. A cat's skin is MUCH more sensitive than other animals' skin. You could cause major skin irritation, even if you think you're only getting it on the fur. Also, if your cat licks the dyed fur (and, as I'm sure you know, cats LOVE to groom themselves), they could injest toxins and become ill.

All in all, you'd most likely end up with a hefty vet bill--and for what? Needlessly dying its fur? Cats have beautiful fur as it is, why would you want to ruin that?

I believe they have dye expressly for this purpose. I know some people dye their poodles. You should check with a groomer or a large pet store such as Petco.

I would guess that Kool-Aide, food coloring, or Punky Color would be okay to use on your pet(stay away from the eyes!), but I suggest you see or talk to a groomer, just to be safe.

Why would you want to do that. All cats are bueatiful without fancy dye or bows!

Try Kool-aid. It will wash out in time. Didn't know what color you wanted, but try it. At least it won't hurt the cat.

when my husband was a teen, he used hairspray and food color. Now, I can not tell you if that is safe or not, but I know that his Maltese looked really silly.
