I think most of the answers already given are pretty good ones. I'll just add five comments:
1) Almost all fish contain Mercury, a hard metal that builds up in your body without ever leaving. The negative effects of Mercury in the body, especially on the developing body, are notorious. Remember, what you eat (or drink) your unborn and nursing baby also eats. I would shy away from fish while pregnant and while nursing.
2) Citric acid is essential to proper development of the fetus. Drink lots of fresh orange or grapefruit juice, or eat fresh oranges and grapefruits (or any other citric fruits).
3) Fats are essential for the proper development of your child's brain. Do not shy away from fatty foods while pregnant, so long as you are still nourishing your fetus with fresh fruits, veggies and proteins. Additionally, allow your baby and even, eventual, toddler and young child to indulge in occasional fatty foods while brain development continues (most importantly, ages 0-7 years). The brain will continue to develop much longer than age 7. However, you will have helped to establish a strong foundation for a lifelong, healthy brain by then. Fats are actually difficult to avoid in foods as the child grows older, so be increasingly more moderate with fatty foods as the child ages.
4) Please nurse your child if possible for at least the first six months. The antibodies, amino acids and other nutriants passed from mother to child during nursing will promote good mylienation (or, the hard wiring of brain synapses - neural connections) that will last a lifetime. The brief nursing period will provide these to your baby in a way no vitamin or food source can duplicate.
5) Don't smoke or drink while pregnant or nursing.

First of all,resist the temptation to go to "McDonald's or Burger King". Healthy means lean meats,like baked chicken,and fish is good too!. Pork is good,as long as it's throughly cooked. Lots of fruits and veggies are the greatest,and don't forget your dairy products. Your Obstetrician will also recommend the perfect diet,according to your height and how much you weighed before you became pregnant. If you've been given Iron & Vitamin Supplements, take them faithfully,and finish your Rx,even after your baby is born. (You won't have to take anymore, unless the Dr. tells you). Good Luck on the birth of your Baby!

I can tell you what not to eat while pregnant.
1. Processed meats that contain the preservatives sodium nitrate/nitrite (deli meats, hot dogs, bacon)
2. Unpasteurized cheeses (Brie, Feta, Camembert)
3. Anything containing raw egg (egg nog, ceasar salad dressing)
4. Herbs of the mint family (mint, parsley, sage, thyme among others)
5. Fresh cold-water fish including tuna (tinned tuna is OK once a week)

Why not start each day off with a yogurt smoothie with fresh fruit. This is an excellent start to your day!
