just like in many areas downriver has it's ups and downs. i grew up in Wyandotte and completely resent the comment about being trashy, etc. i'm a hotel director, one brothers owns a successful electrical engineering company, the other is a Marine, teacher (finishing his PhD) runs an environmental concern in the area AND is very active in church organizations. downriver is what you make of it -- it can be great or lousy. Wyandotte is a super town with it's own water, electric and gas - cable too - the rates are lower than any other city. trenton, woodhaven and some parts of riverview are rather upscale. grosse ile is VERY upscale and for the dolts who seem to think that nothing good comes out of downriver - they need to do a search on the people who live & lived there.

please, email me and let me know if you have children who would need schooling, career path, etc and i would be happy to give you an honest answer.

to the idiot who slammed the fact that some areas are primarily arab -- get over it. when this country was founded AND as short as 30 years ago - every city has pockets where people flock to their own. dearborn is a great town with some wonderful and welcoming people.

I grew up in Woodhaven, in downriver. It was nice but now the real estate is going nuts down there. If you want somewhere where you can have a bit of land and not alot of neighbors I would go with South Rockwood or Flat Rock in some areas. If you want to be closer to Dearborn or Detroit go with Woodhaven and Taylor is shaping up very nicley. They are the richest city in downriver and they are making improvments daily in that city it will be very nice soon. I will say if your rasing kids I dont know how great it will be. There was alot of drug activity when i was growing up and now at Woodhaven HS its like a airport to get into cause in 98 a kid from there shot another kid. There are liason officers walking around and metal detectors. Stay away from Taylor public schools too. Dont by any means live in Southgate there police force is under investigation from the FBI and they will pull you over and issue you a ticket for something you didnt do. I lived there for a yr and it was hell. I live in NYC now but if I had to move back I would move to the Ann Arbor area. Its very nice over there. But if you really want to go with downriver, south rockwood is probably your best bet I have alot of happy friends there. Hope this helped.

As far as Suburban Detroit, but not downriver, Ferndale is a great place to live. So is Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, Clawson. As for Downriver, there are lots of perfectly fine places to live. You just need to look in the right spots. Every town has their good and bad parts, so choose wisely. Michigan's economy is really lousy right now, but it was always a great place to live.

Downriver of Detroit is where they fish most of the mushy bloated bodies out of the river...

I used to work in trenton....i lived in South Gate, Lincoln Park and Taylor. Lots of people say its just a bunch of hicks, but i think its ok...there are lots of red necks, but that meijer in taylor is awesome, and there is lots of shopping right by there, and the airport is close.
I liked taylor, it was a decent place

I lived all over Michigan, and parts of Detroit for over 21 years of my life, and I found that the people of Michigan are very narrow minded, and the other guy is absolutely right the economy for reason I can not figure out is always very mediocre. Housing is very cheap though which is good, you can buy a big ole house for not much at all. Belle Isle is pretty cool.

detroit sucks. michigan sucks. why? becuz of the bad economy. we have the highest unemployment rate in the country next to mississippi, which is the poorest state in the country. if you have an option, dont move there. my sister lives in the subaurbs, and it is extremly boring out there. go to chicago.
