Air has pressure, much like any gas. By using this pressure it fills in cracks and crevices.

Air takes up space because air is composed of gases. Gases are matter and all matter has mass and takes up space.

The gases in air include nitrogen molecules (79%), oxygen molecules (21%), and small amounts of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and trace amounts of argon gas, ozone, petroleum distillates, chlorofluorocarbons, and several types of nitrogen oxides.

Energy, on the other hand doesn't take up space or have mass.

... that question doesnt make sense. how does anything take up space? a ball takes up space because it exists. there are atoms that make up rubber that are there. air takes up space because it exists. there are atoms that make up the gases that make up the air.

air is a thing, a gas, so it takes up space.

well, air is made up of molecules and the molecules are made of atoms that have a specific atomic weight. I guess that it boils down to- atoms are matter and take up space.
