in a bad situation. How could John Kerry's words have been interpreted as anything other than exactly what he said...Paraphrasing here..."get smart or stay stupid" "Learn or repeat the bad mistakes"

Not once in any of the replays of his comments did I hear him say "American soldiers are too stupid to do anything other than fight and die in Iraq".

So it may not have been stated most eloquently but I believe John Kerry has every right to say it and to not be forced to apologize by people who never have served for a single second.

I'm sorry people felt it was a blatant and outright insult - perhaps you heard it was insulting but you didn't actually hear him say it? Or perhaps you are just too on edge because you have a loved one in danger in Iraq due to the ignorance of the bush White House. I just didn't hear an insult to the serving soldiers.

I agree - it was obvious that he was referring to Bush. But maybe that's the whole point? Since Bush couldn't figure that out and is making a big fuss out of it....

John Kerry WAS a soldier, why would he insult other soldiers? He's explained what he meant pretty clearly, the Republicans just want to drive it into the ground. Apparently his joke is more important than the fact that Bush lied to all of us about why we went into Iraq in the first place, and about many other things.

And speaking of stupid...have you heard some of the rediculous things that Bush has said? He likes to make up new words, lie through his teeth, and say things that make absolutely no sense. Is he expected to appologize? Not according to the Republicans.

A lot of the people in the military are in it to further their education because they can't afford to pay for it on their own. Let me repeat that.....THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR COLLEGE ON THEIR OWN...Scholarships you say...Not if you are a healthy, middle class, white Male that wasn't born a "Fortunate Son". One of the sacrifices they have to make is to put their country's needs before their own. Thank God we have men and women willing to make these sacrifices for us and defend our freedom! If every single person in this country had a degree, it would not change the fact that there are a plethora of problems in the WORLD as a whole and we need to be able to defend ourselves. Was I insulted by Kerry's words? No, but i would have to say I can understand why so many military personnel would be. Peace

John Kerry has a history of insulting soldiers. What he said was stupid, insensitive and very much in character with his normal being. For you to defend it the way you do indicates that however insulting he was to the soldiers, if his premise is true, you will end up in Iraq.

I think that most people who are criticizing Kerry have not listened to his speech, but are simply reading what they want to into what the media is reporting and what the Bush followers are pushing. Bush and his entourage are twisting Kerry's words because that is what ignorant people do to try to make themselves look better! If people would listen to Kerry they would understand that he has great respect for those fighting the wars, he just has no use for those who decide to send our children to die for no reason other than to boost oil profits.

Of course Kerry was referring to Bush but the Republicans are too naive to read between the lines!!! Oops did I type that. The devil made me do it!! God Bless our troops and pray they come home soon. Its time we drop a bomb in Iraq and take care of our country first.
