There are still things that can cause "trouble" on You-Tube. If there is even the slightest risk of inappropriate material, the site should be blocked.
Besides, you should be grateful that you even HAVE internet access at school. Back in the day, we were lucky to have a computer lab!

Youtube has porn, violence and sexual content. They probably have a "parental control" turned on that prevents anything not rated PG or G. This is quite normal. Besides, in high school you should be studying. Not to mention, you are too young to be looking at porn. There are many pages on Myspace that promote violence. As for the sports, I'm not sure about that one. That's the only part of this that I would question.
I know you may not want to hear this, but it really is for your own good.

You tube eats bandwidth. And you are wrong. They do block them in colleges. I work for a college and we've blocked you tube, myspace, photobucket just to name a few. In our case, all we need is administrative council to approve the request and its done. You tube slowed a T1 connection to dial up speed...why? Because we had numerous students sitting in class right along with faculty and staff streaming videos. There's your reason for blocking them. Schools are for learning, not surfing the net. You can do that at home.
And just a little advice, we monitor everything people do on their computers and computer labs. We can see everything your doing, where you going and where you are located on the campus. Don't think you can just get a proxy and get around it. If the IT dept is doing their job and sounds like they are, they will know. And if they are smart, they'll shut your pc off when they see it happening like we do.

I really don't know. As a teacher, I get annoyed when access is denied because of certain words. For example, Poison Tree Frog-- we were studying Rain Forest and the kids wanted more information . Anyway, there was a web block for "language content", I guess for the word poison.

Because in high school you are mandated by law to be there. Several sites, like Youtube.com contains videos or stills that do not contribute to the education process. Since students HAVE to be there it is not fair that photographs of girls in skimpy bikinis be visible to some students that may be offended. In college, when you PAY to go there you are granted more rights of expression than you are in high school.

Because you're in school to learn the approved curriculum, not to surf the Internet checking your email, asking questions at Yahoo Answers, looking for silly videos, games, pornography, and infecting the entire school network with various nasty viruses. If you want to surf the Internet unimpeded wait until you get home - and after you do your homework.
