I got mines at 13 it wasnt that bad if you dont want your dad to know he does not have to i had mines for a year and my dad still dont know about it. And your mom can help you alot with it just pull her aside in private tell her.she will know what its like she has it or she already had it .my mom helps me alot with it even when i have bad cramps .she already been through it.

well i hope this will help you

P.S.
if your not ready to tell your mom the first you get it you can tell an older female you really really trust. I told my teacher i really trust her she is like my aunt.

You shouldnt be embarrassed to talk to your mom about it - she has been through it for a long time and can probably give you some great support.

Its also a huge part of life and becoming a women - who better to share that with you than your mother?

Its embarrassing to talk to her but you will feel so much better once you have - you will have someone who can answer the questions you may have - someone who knows the real answers (believe me I heard a lot of stupid things from my friends at this time in my life).

You are so lucky to have a mom and dad in your life - and if you can talk to them and be supported - you are truly blessed.

Hi 13....Well, it sounds like your mum is like mine. Didn't mention sex and i ended up learning from school or magazines. When it came to telling my mum that i had my periods and because girls stuff wasn't discussed before, i just tossed my knickers at her and said guess what?......It worked and she showed me what to do. My sisters were more helpful. Do you have an Aunty or older cousin mabye that you could talk with. Hope this helps and good luck. Angela, Australia.

Well if you've already had "the talk" then just tell her "it's time to buy more tampons/pads"....women our age really aren't going to get all gooshy about it or tell all of our friends "my daughter just got her period it's so exciting"...we really don't do that..

You shouldn't be embarrassed to tell your mom about your period. Remember that she was your age once and got her period about the same time so she will understand.

Try just "I need some tampons (or pads)." Gets it across without asking for discussion.
