I have been married one year and my wife decided she didn't want to be married anymore out of the blue. Anyone know how much alimony I need to pay her and for how long? We are trying not to get lawyers involved. There are no kids involved and both her and I work. I made 80k /yr last year and she made 40k. Thanks in advance!!

each state has their own criteria, some states dont even have alimony, spousal support, any more, unless the spouse is unable to work due to health reasons. I am going through a divorce too, and my lawyer said that in Ohio they take the years that you are married divided by 2, times the amount of the difference in income. blah blah blah. but in your case if you have only been married a year and you both work, she probably is going to get squat. check your local library for cheap or free divorce, dissolution kits. it should have the table in it, or contact a local attorney, first consultation is free. My dissolution is going to cost $100.00 because we agreed on everything and there are no children involved. You may find an attorney that will do it for cheap.

Maybe nothing in alimony. Maybe a few months worth paid up or division of property can be settled to include alimony. Make a list of assests and how they will be divided. You might give her the big screen (for example) in lieu of possible alimony. Good luck. Peace.

Probably nothing. Alimony was for women who post-poned or interrupted their career to help the guy get ahead or to care for children. A year really isn't that long of an investment to require anything. It depends on the state......but last time I heard anything....if there's no children etc and it's not over 8 years and she didn't "sacrifice" anything....you should be ok.

Thats crazy, she should not get any alimony. Only mega rich people get that, ask any lawyer. She cant get squat from you, other than 50% of what you 2 own now as a couple.

If she is working and you have no kids then you shouldn't have to pay alimony. Also, very unusual not to have a lawyer involved especially if you have assets such as a house etc.

We don't have alimony in IN. We have child support and spousal support if the spouse cannot work for health reasons. Check with a lawyer and see if you have to worry about anything.

you should not have to pay anything!! Be sure she pays for her own attorney fees . You will have to split any assets you bought darning the marriage. Be careful , the courts are funny about this area. and you do make more then her. Get ready for just about anything because everything means somthing in this area of law. good luck

I don't see why she should get any. There's no reason for it, split the assets you own together if there was no pre-nump and go your seperate ways. She has a job, she doesn't need alimony, if you can afford a cash settlement that might be enough.

Just my opinion.
