Most importantly, the generation of youth is the biggest it's ever been!
We're more than the post-war baby-boom, or the x-generation.
We control money, up to 3.5 billion dollars of spending each year, just teens.
We have become more independant, but we rely on the media to tell us what to say and what to do. Every secondgirl wants to be Britney Spears, every second guy thinks he needs a sixpack to look good...
The media plays a big part in our lives now.
Young people have become more aware of what lies out there in the world, we have become much more competitive in preparation to fight for ourselves once we have to work for a living.

young adults nowadays are living in what some sociologists call an extended childhood. as little as 100 years ago, teenagers were expected to work in the family business/farm by the age of 15, many girls getting married at 16.
the term 'teenager' didn't even exist until the 20th century. people were just children, then adults.
as time went on and people became more prosperous, teens could stay in school longer, as they were no longer needed to help the family finantially, promoting the extended childhood.

Young adults have a lot of say in the family decisions. Parents give a lot of value to their opinions. In the past that was never the case.
