My ex-husband's girlfriend obviously owes a lot of people money because I get calls for her all the time. She has never lived in my house or state even and my number is unpublished. She doesn't have it. Never has. Never will. I do not share a last name with my ex-husband. However, someone mentioned that they could be using something called skip tracing where they search for anyone that might have been associated with her somehow.. I don't understand it, but I want the collectors to stop calling my house. I don't owe anyone money, yet I have to deal with the calls all the time. I tell them she doesn't live here and they act like they don't believe me. One even got rude about it and implied that I was her and that I was lying to get him to leave me alone.. what can I do? I've told them I can't get a message to her because I have a no-contact order against her and my ex and they keep harrassing me because they say they need to "make contact."

YES! the calls are very annoying.. and yes, she did "take" him.. but only cause he wanted to be "taken." and she can have them. I just want her to pay her bills so I don't have to field phone calls all day.. lol

My ex doesn't have my number, either. We got it changed when the no contact order went into place.

Check the "THE FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT".
I had to do this once to a creditor harrassing us for a bogus debt. Harassment and threats are against the law. Send them a letter telling them to stop and threaten to copy your local consumer protection agency and better business bureau. They are in violation of federal law so trust me, they will stop.
Also, I can't remember where I found it, but somewhere on the internet is a sample letter you can even use and tailor it to fit your exact situation. Good luck.

Hello Jennifer, I can tell you what is happening right now. Your Ex is trying to make it better on his new girlfriend by giving out your phone # to these bill collectors. And that is how they have your phone #. It is time for you to change your phone #. When he calls you up and asks what your new phone # is then tell him that you can not trust him with it that it is his new girlfriend that owes a lot of people money and not you and you are tired of having Bill Collectors call your # attempting to reach her. And ,,,,Really,,,, if they feel that they need to make contact ,,,,,,,,trust me ,,,,,,,,, She (the new girlfriend) knows who she owes money to. She can call the companies back herself. And i am sorry Jennifer but if he is persistent then just give him the phone # to a local hotel or Mcdonalds. Sweetheart i am sorry that they are causing you this greif (and laughing about it). Good luck.

stop them immediately by telling them that they are breaking the law and it's called phone harassment and you don't have a problem reporting them or the company that employes them. certain states have implemented laws to protect consumers from harassment such as this. check your local yellow pages or goverment listings for a number to call i'm sure u will come up with something! Good Luck!:)

Skip trace will use any method to track down bad debt its the only way they make money although as you are not related nor responsible for the debt there are legally not allowed to harass you

All you need to do is tell them to stop calling. Legally they have to stop (even if you did owe them). Tell them you will file a formail complaint if they don't stop.
