MQ: "WE ARE GOING TO MAKE PROG MUSIC". That's probably part of the reason why Nevermore is my favorite prog metal band; they never set out to make progressive music, it just turned out that way. Jeff has roots in death metal and neo-classical, Warrel comes from a somewhat classical background with previous experience in power/thrash, but it all comes together as progressive. I enjoy that songwriting approach a lot more than Dream Theater's "Lets put our music degrees to good use", or Opeth's "Let's make this song as long as possible". That's not to say I don't enjoy the music that those bands put out, hell I often mention that prog, death, and thrash are my holy trinity of metal. But still it's no coincidence that sometimes I'm not in the mood to listen to Dream Theater, but I'll always be in the mood to listen to Queensryche or Nevermore. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I prefer the more "humble" prog metal bands over the theatrical ones. MQ2: Somewhere in between... I appreciate a good solo as much as the next guy (maybe a little more), but usually when metal goes into the more extreme regions of technical playing it loses a lot of melody (I've heard a lot of avant-garde and -core bands that had guitarists with amazing talent, but in the end it just came across as wankery because they had no self-control).

There's an all girt metal band called "Kitty" that I've heard about, and then there's also "The Distillers" who have a female singer, and I know that The Distillers do a lot of screamo/heavy metal stuff. Then there's also "Schoolyard Heroes" (also female fronted) but the amount of screaming their lead singer does depends on the song. It might help if you included a few of the lyrics if you remember any.
