You're right, it's not the same. I grew up in the country and we were outside all day, except coming home for meals. We knew everybody, everybody knew us. Felt safe and secure. Parents trusted us, we got into a little trouble, typical kid stuff.
My kids, we watch very closely. Not as safe. Could not do the same as in my childhood. One good thing in our case I think we're closer to our kids because of the time we DO spend together......and have come to realize the meaning of true, good friends too.

Yes, I do know where my kids are. My daughter, who is now 20, is at work. Although I don't keep tabs on her anymore, I did as she was growing up. My son who is 16 just came in from the field where they have been combining corn. I always know where he is, who he is with, and usually what he is doing. My parents did know where I was, too, growing up. Although people tell me that you can't keep tabs on your kids, they will do whatever they want, I don't believe it. The world would be much better place and parents would step up and take responsibility for their kids. In about a half of an hour, we will all be sitting around the supper table eating a home cooked meal and discussing the days events together. I'm VERY old fashioned, and I love it that way. My kids know they can depend on me and I know I can trust them. Yes, the world would be a much better place if all parents knew, or better yet, cared where their kids where. Excellant question.

how is that sad? It's good to know where your kids are. Albeit, for bad reasons nowadays, I know where you're going with that, but come on... how many times did you do something you probably shouldn't have because your parents didn't know where you were? I know I was up to no good when they didn't know...
Well, I don't have kids at 31, but honestly, I couldn't tell you where my parents are right now! lol.

You are so right DB I do not have any kids just furry ones. My hat is off to parents out there who do the best for their kids. It is the most important job ever.

I understand you. I am 36 years old and it was different when I was a kid. I noticed this at Halloween. Lots of children were accompanied by their parents. When I was young, no one had their parents with them. And that's just what we wanted, FREEDOM!

Yes I do! My 9 year old is at home doing his homework while my husband is supervising him. My 2 & 3 year olds are at daycare coloring with my daycare provider. Trust me I am fully aware where they are!

Yes, my kids are really good at letting me know where they are. even my 16 and 18 year old tell me where they will be and when to expect them home, it is a real relief.
