If the question is about rights then yes... whether not the world will let them is a different story.

Iran has every right to enrich uranium for 'energy' purposes because it is a member of the NPT (Nuclear non-proliferation Treaty) and in compliance with the IAEA standards. These guarantee this right as long Iran stays within certain guidelines.

Ironically, Bush told India, who has refused to sign the NPT, they could enrich uranium. This creates a very complicated dilemma.

Additionally, if you examine Iran's history, Iran has no history of aggression but rather of defense. Iran has also held to all regulations of the NPT to include full access to all uranium enrichment sites to all U.N. inspectors.

There is no evidence to support restricting Iran's right to enrich uranium in order to obtain nuclear energy. Also, keep in mind, Israel has nuclear weapons.

Now with all that said, how do I feel about it? I am not comfortable with Iran having any nuclear capability whatsoever. That is why I fully support Russia's offer to Iran to let them use their nuclear enrichment sites in reaching the targeted material for nuclear power.

This way, Iran gets nuclear energy but does not have the capability of enriching uranium.

Why am I uncomfortable with Iran having this capability? It is not because I feel they are a threat. And it is not that I believe Iran would secretly develop nuclear weapons. It is my fear that Iran is too closely related to organizations that want to do us and Israel harm and I am afraid this technology might fall in the wrong hands.

No. Why would you want the people, whose life is about killing Americans, nuclear weapons. No one has a right to weapons that can kill billions of people in a second. With the right amount of nuclear weapons you could wipe out the entire American continent, north and south, in an instant. With nuclear weapons the world could be destroyed.

You ask if Iran has the right to make nuclear weapons, but i ask you would you give your enemy a loaded gun.

No one should have that right. Not even the US

Of course not it makes perfect sense that the only countries allowed to have nuclear weapons are the 5 countries that were victorious in WWII, USA Britain, China, France and Russia. This makes perfect sense. It also makes perfect sense that these 5 countries should be the permament members of the security council of the UN and be able to veto any UN security motion at all. Thus completly handicapping the UN from ever making a decisive decision ever. Makes perfect sense.

Nobody has the right to nuclear weapons - however why don't those in the 'club' set a good example and get rid of their nuclear weapons? Britain is going to renew Trident at the cost of billions (trillions?) of taxpayer's money - a nuclear deterrent which is no longer needed, nuclear weapons aren't any use against the 'greatest threat facing civilisation' (apparently) - Islamic extremism.

Well if you consider a country that just sponsored a contest for the best derogatory cartoon of the Holocaust and a "president"/ DICTATOR that calls for the destruction of Israel competent than let em have nukes. I personally think if they had nukes it would be the start of WW3. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an intelligent mad man. The stability of the middle east would crumble as the mad terrorist would have the capability of killing millions and he wouldn't think twice about it. Iran already sponsors the terrorists in Iraq and Palestine.

Iran deserves the right to nuclear energy.
They do not deserve or not deserve the right to nuclear weapons anymore than Pakistan.

sure why not? they want to produce nuclear power to generate energy. Almost all countries around the globe have nuclear power and that doesn't mean they are developing an atomic bomb.
Besides, no country has opposed to The US nuclear power genetors even when America has been the only country that has already dropped 2 bombs in Japan

No, that'd be dumb of the UN to give someone the right to make nuclear weapons and not someone else. That's like someone tying you up to a tree and saying "Now, let's play paintball."

I say if Iran wants nukes, let's sell them as many as they want.

SHHH, here's the catch, they have a timer set to go off in a few days. When they blow up we can say it was because they were tinkering with 'em. hehehe

No-- by signing the non-proliferation treaty (which I think they did), they said they wouldn't.

We have enough nukes in the world-- we don't need any more. Especially from a country with a nut-job set of leaders.
