It represents a time of family and being together and helping out those in need

Yes. Contrary to popular beleif, it is (or was) a holiday celebrated by christians who were thankful to God for a plentiful harvest. They weren't thankful for the new land, in fact most pilgrims wanted to go back east, because they were afraid of the natives. Peace was not made with them, and they did not eat thanksgiving dinner together, that's a myth. So, in theory, when pagans and athiests alike celebraate thanksgiving, they are giving thanks to god, for all he has done. Kinda ironic, eh?

For me, (and I'm not answering historically) it represents the thankfulness I feel for my family being with me, and alive, and enjoying each others company, and each others 'special' dishes that were prepared for all of us to have together.
Giving thanks for being together. I love it.

The pastor at our church, refers to Thanksgiving as"ThanksLIVING", and reminds us although it is a wonderful thing that we set aside a day to show our thanks to God and everyone in our lives, but wants us to remember to LIVE our lives in a humble and thankful manner each and every single day.
Is that deep or what? i know, i know, its the or what....anyway, HAPPY THANKS-LIVING!

in america, it was the thanks given by the pilgrims to god for getting them through the year without starving, freezing and dying of disease. and in large part it was the native americans that taught them how to survive it.
