I recently bought an old Audi 80. It is a great car, but whenever I start the engine, or accelerate, it makes a really loud screeching noise. It also seems to get even worse when the weather is cold.
Is this just the fan belt needing tightening, or could it be something else?

sounds like fan belt slipping, best replace the belt if its been slipping for a while, easy check to see if it is the belt slipping spray a little wd40 onto the belt then start engine if noise has gone its the belt but still replace belt ,otherwise could end up with a flat battery.
