I was wondering is when a baby is born still, are there any signs before hand? I mean like was something wrong with the baby while it as still inside? I am 21 weeks along with a very active healthy baby girl, but I get terrified sometimes of her not making it in the end. Also how common is a still birth?

Stillbirth isn't really that common (5 out of 1,000 is only 0.5%).....

Here's text from a page below...

Unfortunately, stillbirth is a fairly common occurrence in all countries in the world. In the UK, approximately five out of every 1,000 babies will be stillborn. However, the incidence of stillbirth has dropped significantly in the past thirty years. In fact, there has been a 20% reduction in stillbirths since 1970.

Though any woman can experience a stillbirth, there are certain factors that increase your risk of fetal death. These risk factors include:

having a multiple pregnancy
having pre-existing health conditions (such as high blood pressure)
smoking during pregnancy
using street drugs during pregnancy
being over the age of 35

the only signs I know of are not finding a heart beat at a doctors visit and not feeling the baby kick and move anymore. If you dont have a high risk pregnancy you probably wont have a still born. but your fear is common in first time mothers.

Stillbirth is very common. One out of every 100 babies are stillborn. While this may seem like "not a lot" it is 40,000 babies each year in the USA!! 109 babies a day! Stillbirth can happen at any time and without warning. There are some signs, but doctors tend to "blow these off". For example, I complained all the time my son rarely moved. I was told over and over it ws "normal". Well, it wasn't. Also, I was monitored in my 37th week of pregnancy due to him not moving much. Everything checked out, but there were some decreases in his heart rate. Also, at another appointment his heart rate was super high. I was told over and over it was normal. It wasn't. My son was stillborn one day away from his due date. It is SO important to do kick counts. Please please please...there was nothing wrong with my son, he was 100% normal. He just got wrapped up in his cord and his death was 100% preventable if someone had just taken me seriously. I had ZERO risk factors and did everything right. EVERYTHING! It strikes anyone..young, old, married, rich, poor... continue to educate yourself, it helps you and your daughter.

It is normal to be worried about your child being born on time and not early. Try to relax! Pretty soon your doctor should ask you to start counting kicks/movement. When you start to keep track of that, you'll get a better idea of what is normal activity for your baby. If this activity changes in any way, you'll know something is wrong.
