Another not so dumb question. Years ago (before 1990), McDonalds used to fry their french fries in beef fat. So if you went to Mickey D's to buy fries in, say, 1985, that would have been a good question.
I suspect that other places probably STILL fry their fries in beef fat, but because they don't have McDonalds' high profile, no one knows about it.

Weirdly enough there was a vegetarian flap about that in India. The potatoes are vegetables but the "flavor enhancer" that McDonalds added was beef soup.

Not usually. But if they were fried in lard then they contain an animal product in them, yeah.
And some fries (such as chili cheese fries) do have beef in (well, on) them.

depends on where you get them......McD's puts beef broth in their fry mix to help with flavor, some other places don't and only use real potatoes.......you just have to figure out who does and who doesn't.
