Quick question-when is it alright to take a bath after a normal vaginal delivery. I did not tear, or have an episiotomy, or anything like that. I delivered 1 week ago, and my bleeding is about done. Thanks!

Yes definately! You deserve a nice relaxing hot bath! I took a bath 4 days after my daughter was born and it was soooooo nice.

Enjoy your bath, and congrats on the new addition!

You can bathe within hours of giving birth. Do not douche or anything like that though. I just delivered a baby boy in June and the hospital actually had whirlpool tubes in every room and they recommend that as soon as I felt up to it I get into it and at least soak. The hot water really helped to relieve the sore muscles you get from giving birth. You deserve it, find someone to watch the baby, or do it while he/she is napping and take a long hot bath and relax and enjoy. BTW congrats.

You can take a bath as soon as they put you in your room if you like.
Those are old wives tales about not taking a bath after a vaginal delivery.
Actually your body will enjoy the soak and help any swelling go down.

You can take a bath right now, as long as you're able to get in and out of the tub without injury. Obviously don't douche. Also, don't use bubble bath; it can cause a bacterial infection.

A bath - whether in the tub or using a Sitz bath - is just what the doctor ordered to help reduce swelling and inflammation, and to help your body heal.

Yes, it's fine. The only time a tub bath is contraindicated is for a brief time after you have a c-section.
