Where?!?!?!?! I already have my credit card out, just point me in the right direction. In all seriousness, you can get one for $400, but NOT with all the trimmings, in fact it probably won't have any trimmings. $700 to $1500 is still what I would call pretty decent range for a good laptop.

Well, actually you can't get one loaded with all the trimmings for $400 but I do understand your point. First of all, a $400 to $500 laptop will probably come with 256MB of memory, occasionally 512MB and maybe a 40GB to 80GB hard drive. Possibly a CDRW/DVD combo drive, it most likely won't have a DVD burner (in some cases, maybe). The display will probably be 14" and it won't have a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor (in most cases). And it most certainly will not have a discrete graphics card, that is a guarantee and battery life will be around 2 hours (which isn't much these days), good battery life is 3 hours or more.
A loaded laptop by my definition...
1GB of DDR2 Memory or better
Core Duo or Core 2 Duo Processor
Discrete Graphics card
80GB or larger SATA hard drive
dual layer DVD burner (lightscribe prefered but not required)
15.4" Glossy display (1280 x 800 resolution or better)
And that I can guarantee you cannot be had for $400, you're looking at right around $1,100 for a fully loaded laptop by my definition.

Companies are making better software. Yeah, you can buy a laptop for $400, but how good is it? It would be good for doing work, but that's about it. Now if you want a gaming computer, they can get up there. My uncle just bought an AlienWare laptop for $3200. Yeah.
Another thing is software. The newer laptops come with Microsoft Office 2003, and even more recent programs. The old ones come with Microsoft Office 2000. I perfer 2000 anyways.
Finally, there is one more thing: Operating Systems. When Vista comes out, the cost of XP is going to drop dramatically. Wait a few more months to buy a computer, because they'll be a lot easier on your wallet.

Easy.
They get more into them with less these days.
They've worked off the production R&D costs and can know pass that savings onto you and me...
Plus, Laptop competition is fierce these days; everyone and their brother is making and selling them...
But, even with that, 400 bucks is probably for a bare bones (or used) system...
DESKtops, maybe, and those are even starter systems...a decent lower mid range Laptop is still about 750 bucks, I think...

Your motherboard seems after itself. If it gets too warm, feels something is inaccurate, the pc will close down. sometimes you will overheat. this may be the subject. Ram would not make a working laptop or pc close down straight away except it burns up. sparkling out dirt interior the pc and make beneficial your CPU Fan is functioning appropriate.
