Just ask the sender. They might have made a typo.
If they get snippy and start mailing you "Don't you even know what "sm" means?" and start being nasty, write back, "Lrn 2 spl, idt."
Some e-mail abbreviations are really cute, but in general, I think it's just lazy typing. It also makes it hard on us old folks.

what was the sentence it was in? or was it an answer to a question?? or did they just type it randomly?
