I was just curious to see how big people's captive iguanas actually get. I was doing research for pictures of people's iguanas and none of them even compare to mine at the age he is. Mine's name is Louie, he turned four in September, he's 6 feet long and weighs in at about 17 pounds. Also, I've read about the orange on their arms meaning it's breeding season. Mine has orange all year around and I'm pretty sure he's not in breeding season 365 days out of the year because he's very docile a majority of the time. He's my boy. Anyways, can any of you compare?

I have 3 igs and 2 bearded dragons.... but; my oldest and largest ig, Ig Monster, is almost 9 years old and she is 5 feet long (full grown for a female). The next, Brain, is 4 feet long and 4 years old. We rescued him when he was 2 years old and only 1 foot long, so he has grown a lot but is still undersized. The youngest, Little Dude, is our latest rescue he is only 6 months old; he is about 8 inches long and has no tail. :( it's growing back though. he was in bad shape when we got him; poor little guy.
The orange is normal. Also, the size of yours is normal too. The males grow quick if taken care of properly. Yours is a good size for his age, it just means your doing a great job. :)

For starters, a reptile can cost $100 or more to purchase, unless it's an iguana, which costs about $20. Additionally, there is the cost of an aquarium, which can run several hundred dollars for a large one. Furthermore, you will need to arrange the reptile's space with one or two heat lamps (up to $25 each). Iguanas are purely vegetarian, and iguana “mix” is fairly inexpensive. Also, many reptile experts recommend special vitamins, which can cost up to $15 a bottle they also eat leafy greens (not iceberg lettuce only use romain if you're giong to give it lettuce) and diced fruit.Of course, there will be all kinds of toys and other accessories that you'll feel you simply must have, and you may want to consider those costs as well. Their size can be: Hatchling 6-9 in. ~90 gm ----------------------------------- 1 year 20-27 in. 1-1.5 lbs ----------------------------------- 2 years 28-36 in. 2-4 lbs ----------------------------------- 3 years 30-42 in. 4-6 lbs ---------------------------------- 4 years 35-48 in. 5-8 lbs ---------------------------------- 5 years 45-60 in. 10-15 lbs ---------------------------------- 6 years 50-66 in. 14-18 lbs ---------------------------------- 7 years 50-72 in. 15-20 lbs --------------------------------- stl = snout-tail length Females are generally smaller than males. There is some regional difference in size/mass so actual size will be dependent upon where the iguana was originally from, but overall will be well within the above ranges.

I have 3 igs...one is mine and two are up for adoption. My 8 1/2 yr. old is 15" svl and 49" stl with a 3" tail loss and about 6-7 lbs. The females are half his size at about 3 yrs. old and housed seperately from him. We don't need babies!! My own ig was stunted from a bad case of MBD when he was younger, so he'll never be as big as he could have been.
As for the orange all year long. It just means your ig has a high amount of testosterone. Some go back to being mostly green...like mine...and some stay pumpkins forever...;-D

Vinnie is a rescue and 6 years old...he is pushing 5 feet (nose to tail) with missing probably 9 inches from his tail. He weighs about 9 lbs and it seems like he is orange most of the time too. But really orange in his outdoor enclosure.
