I am French therefore am most of the time on the French Yahoo Q&A and the answers there are most of the time :
-very short
-often irrelevant
-uncomplete
-sometimes mocking or offending,
here i come for the first time and the length, and quality of the answers are incredible. Can anyone explain to me why this difference? Has Yahoo Q&A been around longer in UK or sth?

We answer more fully because we understand that for someone to ask a question, they would like a genuine answer. We're just being considerate and helpful. We do occasionally have the odd joker, but on the whole, people do genuinely care about someone else's question, concerns or statement, so much so that we provide a well put answer to aide them as best we can. Hope that answers your question.

I'm from Florida, but living in Canada. I often click to only view Canadian Q&A because in I found the general English Q&A to be:
very short
often irrelevant
incomplete
usually mocking or offending.
Sorry - that probably doesn't help you. And it might make me look bad too. I think you probably have the right answer - than YA has been around in English longer, and some of the English speaking people have gotten into the habit of talking a lot because they've gotten so many points for doing so in the past. Maybe you could be the trendsetter, and when people see that long answers are appreciated, they'll begin taking Answers more seriously too. Depends on the person, English or not.

Hello,
I really couldn't say for sure why. To imply that it was anything other than the amount of time that Yahoo Q&A has been been around in the UK would be insulting to the French. :)
Instead perhaps it is that the French spend far more of their time in the real world and doing real things? Or are less introverted than the British? So that the only people on the French Yahoo Q&A (except for your good self of course) are those that are left?

Firstly welcome to the english speaking Q&A !
Well so much depends there are so many english speakers around the globe. I personally give many different types of answer depending largely on the question but also sometimes dictated by mood at the time. I am simply glad to have you here, maybe you can instill a little style and panache into some of our younger females they sorely need it (some of them) and it is one area in which you french ladies seem to excell.
There are plenty of bigots to be found on here too so just keep looking, and you will come across every conceivable kind of answer here to almost any question.

It's good to know that someone finds our answers sufficient =)
See, while there will always be fools who find pleasure in abusing Yahoo! Answers, there are a few of us who enjoy answering the questions provided. It gives us an outlet to help others with our knowledge. Sure, there's still junk, but a few gems of knowledge shine through.
I'm not sure of which country Y!A originated from and/or has lasted longer in, but I'm sure a Yahoo! Staff member would be more than happy to fill you in.

If you think that French answers are poor, take a look at the Spanish. The Mexicans, Argentines and sundry South Americans vie for the title of most inane.

At the risk of being short, mocking and offending you, that's pretty much what I'd expect from the French.
Also, us Brits like to give advice - it makes us feel smug and superior, which is about as close as we get to passionate.
Beware American answers, they like to brag about their education, but between you and I they're a bit dim.
Having dispensed with the national stereotyping, do take a look around at the variety of answers (and indeed questions) here. We have more than ou fair share of bigots, "comedians" and other assorted idiots who lack the imagination to qualify as bigoted or attempting comedy.

Believe me, hang around a bit longer and you will see all kinds of answers here too. But in general, people are decent and helpful because the idiots get bored and wander off elsewhere.
Welcome, by the way :)

I think you should come and see this country.
I think the French are sensible people but maybe they are not as open minded, educated or as tolerant as the English people of Britain.
