Distributive property:
8p+8+3p=-14

Combine like terms:
11p+8=-14

Subtract 8 on both sides:
11p=-22
p=-2

Check:
8(-2+1)+3(-2)=-14
8(-1)+3(-2)=-14
-8-6=-14
-14=-14

first of all...are you solving for p? if you are then here are the steps
1) 8(p+1)+3p=-14
2) 8p +8 +3p=-14
3) 11p+8=-14
4) Subtract 8 from both sides giving you: 11p=-22
5) divide 11 by both sides giving you p=negative 2

:)

8(p+1)+3p=-14 (multiply parentheses times 8)
8p+8+3p=-14 (combine like terms)
11p+8=-14 (get p by itself by subtracting 8)
11p=-8-14 (-8 and -14 equals -22)
11p=-22
p=-22/11 (divide 11 by both sides to get p by itself)
p=-2
that is if you are trying to solve for p

well you do the distributive property to get
8p+8+3p=-14
then you combine like terms
11p+8=-14
then subtract 8 to get
11p=-22
then divide each side by 11 and you get your answer
p=-2
